31 Ideas to make Your Social Media Rock This October

October 6, 2016

Sometimes coming up with new and interesting social media topics can be tough. So I scouted all my best sources of inspiration and mixed them in with my go-to ideas and have brought you this list.

Each month until the end of the year I'll give you a month's worth of ideas that you can use each day to make your social media.

Here are my suggestions for October.

Quotes: Find some funny or motivational quotes, add them to a good stock photo a photo you can take and post away. Find a great quote and your post will be shared readily.

Polls: We all (should) know that Facebook offers built-in polls, but I prefer to run my own. It's good if you can relate this to your industry and try to keep it on topic, but you don't always have to.

Behind-the-scenes photos: Take amusing shots of yourself or your employees, or take a photo of something fun happening in the office. If you never do anything fun in the office see point 4 (next)

Do something fun in the office: Bring in a bunch of muffins or snacks and take some photos while everyone digs in. The staff will like the treat and you'll get a couple of nice photos.

News, Statistics or data: Share new industry news and relevant industry statistics, These are great as tweets or Instagram posts.

Recycle old blog posts: You've already done the hard work producing blog posts, so why not talk about them again, or link to them from a more current blog post. Doing the work once and using it many times is always a good idea. Like this post - 25 things you can do to market your business.

Ask Questions: Ask simple questions or for opinions on topics that your followers can answer quickly.

Link to a guest post: Share (or re-share) a link to a post you contributed to another site. Blogging is one of the best ways to keep your site up-to-date and also to help your search engine ranking (SEO). Read why you should be blogging here.

Post a branded image: Post a funny or inspirational image with your logo or website URL on it.

Infographics: Find an infographic your followers would appreciate. Check out Daily Infographic for ideas, or better yet, or get someone like The Pixel Bullies to design one for you.

Product photos: Work best on sites like Pinterest or Instagram. Think about how you can add a unique angle to the shots (e.g. an employee actually using the product, a customer-submitted photo, etc.).

Behind-the-scenes product shots: Photos of your products being manufactured or sourced.

Link to a controversial blog post: There’s nothing better for eliciting engagement than a little controversy.

Ask for input on your products or service: Your followers will love giving their thoughts on how to improve your products.

Get inspired by Pinterest: Pinterest is a wonderful resource for browsing on almost any subject.  Search through other peoples collections and boards and you'll find plenty of inspiration. Remember to credit where credit is due though. Take a look at my Pinterest here

Share other bloggers tips and tricks: If you're really all about helping your followers and giving them the best information - don't be shy on sharing other people's great info. There's no need to rip anyone off, maybe even invite them for a Q&A or a guest blog. See where you can collaborate. The possibilities are endless.

Post a Slideshare presentation: Maybe you've spoken at a seminar, networking group or training course? If so you can repurpose the talk that you did and present it as a slideshow on Slideshare. It could introduce you to a global network of potential followers and clients.

Ask for reviews & testimonials: Reviews and testimonials are very powerful indeed, especially Google reviews on your business. Ask fans or clients to say something about your work or articles. Then share the best ones on your website remembering to link to the reviewers for that extra layer of connection.

Fan photos: Search for hashtags related to your business or products, and share a customer photo on Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest.

Recommend a tool: Share a free tool or resource you think your followers would find useful. Show them how it is useful and how it can help them out or solve a problem.

A day in the life post: Give a recap of a typical day in the life of a graphic designer, author, CEO, etc.

Recommend your favorite products: If you’re an ecommerce site, share a list of your top sellers or highest-rated products. If you’re a service provider, share a list of the products that help you succeed in your business.

Share random tips: Periodically post a random tip or trick your followers would find useful. Hint: using random tip numbers adds interest to your post (e.g. Tip #012: __________) You can collate them into a monthly post for your blog.

Link to your most popular blog post: Give a brief intro to the post and explain why it’s your most read and shared post.

Provide a recommendation: Share the love by recommending a business you’ve worked with successfully in the past.

Share a work/life balance tip: Your social media followers want to know you’re a real person with the same struggles as them. Share a tip you’ve learned for balancing work, life and family.

Ask for advice: Pose a hypothetical question and ask your followers what they would do in that situation.

Take a trip down memory lane: Share photos of old logos, websites or your very first product.

Random posts that show you’re a real person: For instance, what you had for dinner last night or what you’re doing this weekend.

Share popular Reddit topic: Visit Reddit’s Trending Subreddit page to find popular and trending topics to post about or even host your own AMA (Ask Me Anything) - You may be surprised by the reaction you get.
